Week 22- Live Out Loud

28 Feb

Before we get started, I want to share a song with you.  “Live Out Loud” by Steven Curtis Chapman.

Christians need to live out loud.  John 3: 21 says, “But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”  Christians are called to live their lives obviously.  They need to point to God so that everybody sees that God is the one guiding their actions.

Christians are called to live differently.  We have higher standards to live by.  We have commands that we are called to live out.  We have rewards and severer punishments we will receive according to our actions.  We also know the truth, and our hearts and actions are to be guided by it.

Christians are also called to obey God, so that God can use their actions to point to Him.  John 14:23, “Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.’ ”  When you obey God, He will come in and help you live your life out loud.

Christians are called to show others the way to follow Jesus.  Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  We are to show others the truth and help the live by it.

Someone once said that Christians are to live as outcasts.  I would argue that we are not supposed to live as outcasts, but that it just comes with the territory.  The way we live differently goes against the world’s values.  Of course the world will persecute us, it is afraid of the light.  The beginning of the John 3 passage tells us that much; “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”

John 15:18-19: “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.  If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.”

We should not strive to live as outcasts, we should live so that the world sees us as a threat.  For if we tell the world who we really are, the world, and its King, Satan, will see us as a threat to their belief that there is no God.  If we are truly open, the world will want us gone.  When Christians live loudly, then they are bringing in the light. They are bringing in the truth.  The World is afraid of the light, the truth.  It doesn’t want to change, and it doesn’t want its sin uncovered.  It loves the darkness.

Now I call on you to live out loud, live and bring in the light and truth.  Live so loudly that the world will see you, hate you, be afraid of you, and want you gone.  That is the sign of a true and loud Christian!
